Filing Officer

The Sahuarita Town Clerk is the filing officer for all municipal elections,  Please direct all questions related to candidate filing and submission of campaign finance reports to the Town Clerk's Office at (520)822-8802.

Candidate Eligibility

Residents interested in running for Sahuarita Town Council Member must be at least 18 years of age; a qualified elector at the time of filing their nomination paper; and have resided in Sahuarita for one year. 

Nomination Petitions

Candidate nomination petitions must contain a minimum of 118 to a maximum of 236 signatures of eligible Town of Sahuarita voters.  Candidates must file their nomination petitions and other nomination forms with the Town Clerk's office by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2016 to have their name appear on the Primary Election ballot.  Write-in candidates are not required to file nomination petitions, but must file all other nomination forms by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2016.

Candidate Filing Documents

All candidates must file either a Political Committee Statement of Organization or a $500 Threshold Exemption Statement BEFORE circulating petitions, receiving or expending money, or distributing campaign literature.

A Statement of Organization is required if campaign expenditures or campaign contributions will exceed $500.  A candidate who does not believe he or she will expend or receive contributions in excess of $500, may file a $500 Threshold Exemption Statement in lieu of a Statement of Organization.

Political Signs

Campaigns wishing to use political signs within the boundaries of the Town of Sahuarita must apply for a temporary sign permit with the Planning and Building department.  All political signs must comply with state law and town code.  

Candidate Packets

Prospective candidates may make an appointment with the Town Clerk to review the candidate packet and discuss the election process.  Informational appointments generally last 30 minutes.  Please call (520)822-8802 to make an appointment.
