How do I set up or close an account with the Sahuarita Wastewater Utility?
We work closely with the Sahuarita Water Company. Your account will be set up/closed automatically once you establish or close your account with the Sahuarita Water Company. To learn more, contact the water company at 520-399-1105 or visit the website at

There is a $10 setup charge on new accounts. Also, a $100 security deposit will be required unless auto bill pay is established and maintained for at least 12 consecutive months.  

What is the difference between Sahuarita Water Company and Sahuarita Wastewater Utility?  
The Sahuarita Water Company is a private utility that provides potable water to its customers. The Company is regulated by the Arizona Corporation Commission. The Sahuarita Wastewater Utility is a Town operation that manages the collection and treatment of wastewater/sewer for its customers. The Utility is governed by the Town Council. 

Why am I getting a bill in the mail and an E-bill? Are you billing me twice?
The bills are one and the same, only the delivery method differs. You can change how your bills are sent to you by logging onto the customer portal at

I used to receive one bill for water and sewer. Why do I get two bills now?
The Town used to contract with the Sahuarita Water Company bill for sewer services on behalf of the Wastewater Utility. The Company decided not to renew the contract with the Town.  Since August 1, 2014, the Town has been responsible for the Utility’s billing.    

The system is called MuniBilling. It allows customers to enroll in the system using the information on your most recent billing statement. Go to https://sahuaritaaz.secure.munibilling.com/  to set up a user login ID and password. You will receive a confirmation email of your setup. Once your account is established you will have access to the following: 

  • Access to your account information
  • Ability to make on-line payments
  • Ability to set up automatic payments
  • Request email statements 
  • Immediately view application of on-line payments

How can I pay my sewer bill?
1.       You can pay online by going to our secure website at: https://sahuaritaaz.secure.munibilling.com/. Please have your most recent billing statement available to set up a user login ID and password. Once established you will be able to make a one-time payment with debit/credit card (AMEX cards not accepted at this time) or set up auto payment for the full balance or a fixed amount on a monthly basis. Payments are reflected on your account immediately.

2.    You can pay by check or money order by mailing your payment to our Wells Fargo merchant lockbox address at:
P.O. Box 52775 Phoenix, AZ 85072-2775 (please include remittance coupon with your payment). Upon receipt, all lockbox payments are processed by the following business day. Please do not send correspondence with your payment to the lockbox address. See below for ways to contact us. 

3.       You can make a payment over the phone by calling 520-344-7101. Payments handled by an account representative are processed immediately. 

4.       You can pay in person at the Sahuarita Town Hall lobby Monday-Friday during normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can schedule an appointment with an account representative to discuss your account in detail. In addition, a drop box is located in the lobby next to the front counter. Payments handled by the account representative are processed immediately. Drop box payments are processed on the same business day.

Can I get assistance logging into my account in MuniBilling?

Why am I not getting emails from MuniBilling? 

It’s possible that your email server is considering these as junk email or spam. A possible solution is to change your email settings, marking emails from  as safe. 

How much do you charge for sewer services?  
The Town of Sahuarita Wastewater Utility sewer charges are recalculated annually, beginning with each July service period. The total monthly charge is comprised of an administrative fee and a water consumption fee. The administrative fee is $14.39. The consumption fee is $4.80 per 100 cubic feet of water consumed. Commercial accounts may require a multiplier to the consumption fee, depending on the nature of the business conducted. A table of factors is provided in the Sahuarita Town Code (STC) §13.10.200. 

How do you determine how much water I consumed? 
The Sahuarita Water Company provides the Town with each account’s monthly water consumption figures (in thousands of gallons) for the prior year. The data is used to derive a monthly average for the year and a monthly average during the winter months (December, January, and February), which are typically the lowest usage months for the average customer. The lower of the two averages is used. For residences, the system average of 700 cubic feet (7 CCF) is used if an account doesn’t have sufficient history on which to calculate an average.    

My water bills are calculated in thousands of gallons but my sewer bills use hundreds of cubic feet.  How do you convert this?
 1000 gallons is equivalent to 134 cubic feet (="1.34" CCF). 

Why isn’t my bill based on exactly what goes down my drain each month?
Sewer meters that can measure the exact volume of wastewater you send down the drain would be extraordinarily expensive to install, maintain and monitor. Such meters are used only with industrial-strength wastewater dischargers. Averaging is a method that is used nationwide to calculate sewer bills.

How can I appeal my sewer bill?
The sewer fees are recalculated every July. Under the Town’s Code, customers have 60 days after the mailing of the July service period bill to appeal the updated sewer volume rates. If you did not reside at the property prior to December 31, your sewer volume rate cannot be appealed. To make an appeal, you will need to complete a form, which can be found on our website at http://sahuaritaaz.gov/FormCenter or by contacting us.

What is the service period for a sewer bill? 
The service period is the month in which sewer/wastewater services are provided to our customers. Bills are sent the following month, in arrears.  For example, a bill sent in September will be for the August service period.

How many days will I have to pay my sewer bill?

You will have at least 20 days after the date the bill was printed to pay. Bills are sent out the first business day of the month and due the 25th of the same month. For example, a bill sent 8/1/16 will be due 8/25/16.


How much do I owe?
The amount reflected on your billing statement is the amount owed as of the billing date. A balance due in parentheses represents a credit balance. If your balance due amount is in parentheses you do not need to send payment. If a payment was received after the due date it may not be reflected on your statement. However, you can log into the MuniBilling system and see any payments that were received and applied to your account after the billing date.

I have a past due amount on my sewer bill, are there payment plan options?

Yes, the Town of Sahuarita Wastewater Utility has payment plan options available to sewer customers with a delinquent balance. Please call the Town of Sahuarita Wastewater Utility at 520-344-7101 or email 
to request additional information.

Are there any financial assistance programs?
There are programs that provide assistance to qualifying individuals. You may call the Arizona Department of Economic Security at 1-800-582-5706 for information on eligibility and application requirements. They can also help you locate other agencies and programs in our area.

Do you offer a vacancy rate?
A vacancy rate is available upon request. During an approved vacancy period, only the monthly administrative fee will be billed. Please note that vacancy rate requests are due 30 days prior to the vacancy. Sahuarita Wastewater will validate the reduction in your water use over the vacancy period.  By signing the Vacancy Request Form, you authorize the Sahuarita Water Company to release your records. A $5 fee (per request) will be charged to your account to cover the costs associated with obtaining and verifying the data. To request a vacancy rate, you will need to complete a form, which can be found on our website at http://sahuaritaaz.gov/FormCenter or by contacting us.

Why is my sewer bill higher than my water bill?
Potable (drinking) water delivered to homes and businesses comes from surface water provided by the Central Arizona Project or from ground water. These natural and relatively clean water resources require some treatment before they are delivered to customers. After the water is used, it becomes "wastewater," which requires a much higher and costly level of treatment. This water eventually is returned to the environment and must be cleaned so it doesn't harm plants, animals or people.
