The Arbor Day Foundation named the Town of Sahuarita Tree City USA for its commitment to effective urban forest management. Sahuarita’s trees are an important natural resource that have a positive effect on the environment, because they reduce erosion, produce oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.
The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management awarded the Town the Community Challenge grant to inventory Town trees. Completion of the tree inventory will help further the diversification of our urban forest. Volunteer opportunities are available to participate in the tree inventory.
