The Arbor Day Foundation named the Town of Sahuarita Tree City USA for its commitment to effective urban forest management. Sahuarita’s trees are an important natural resource that have a positive effect on the environment, because they reduce erosion, produce oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.
Park trees are dominated by mesquite (542 or 51% of total trees), ash, acacia, palo verde and oak.
In the upcoming years, we will add more variety of trees, including:
Acacia Aneura Chaste Tree Chinese Pistache Common Hackberry Evergreen Elm Feather Bush Ironwood Mastic Tree Morning Cloud Chitalpa Red Oak Shoestring Acacia Texas Ebony Texas Mountain Laurel White Thorn Acacia Willow Acacia
Volunteers provided 343 hours of help to inventory the park trees and 513.5 hours overall.
This inventory was supported by a grant from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.
