(SAHUARITA, AZ – July 2023) – The Town of Sahuarita, through the support of U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, secured $3 million towards the construction of the Town’s portion of the Campbell Avenue extension project.
“This is a big win for our town,” said Beth Abramovitz, Assistant Town Manager. “Projects like these connect Sahuarita to the larger region in new ways, bringing access, business, and future development opportunities to us.”
The project is connected to a larger extension plan led by Pima County, per an intergovernmental agreement. The county has plans to complete the approximately 3,400 feet of road within its limits to provide additional access for the residents of this area.
The town’s portion will connect White House Canyon Road with South Campbell Avenue. Extension plans include a bridge structure over the Sawmill Canyon Wash and a two-lane road with bike lanes and sidewalks.
The town’s portion of the Campbell Ave. extension project is indicated on the map above in red.
Earlier this year, stakeholders came together to enterprise funding solutions to complete this work in anticipation of the further development of Madera Highlands.
“Our finance team was instrumental in securing this grant,” said Abramovitz. “They worked quickly to complete appropriation applications that ultimately prepared Congressman Ciscomani to advocate for project funding. I’m proud to be a part of this county effort.”
Updates on the design and implementation of the project are anticipated this fall.
