[ARCHIVED] Sahuarita Road Construction Update – Tuesday 08/13/13

This is the August 13, 2013 weekly construction update for the Sahuarita Road Phase II project, specifically Project Segments 2A and 2B .

Last week, within the Segment 2A Project, crews installed the sub-surface concrete shafts for the future westbound bridge pier columns. This week crews are installing (6) new pier columns to support the new bridge. Next week work will begin on the bridge abutments and pier caps.

All Sahuarita Road traffic between La Villita Road and the realigned Nogales Highway is currently shifted to the new eastbound lanes (and on the new bridge at the Santa Cruz River). This traffic shift is allowing the construction of the future westbound lanes and new westbound bridge across the Santa Cruz River. Speed limits will be reduced in the vicinity of traffic shift for the safety of the workers and traveling public.

The Segment 2B project – Nogales Highway Realignment – is approximately two-miles in length, roughly one-mile North and one-mile South of Sahuarita Road. A new railroad crossing signal as well as a new traffic signal at the intersection of Sahuarita Road have also been installed.

On Wednesday, August 14th (weather permitting) the Town intends to move all traffic to the new Sahuarita Road/Nogales Highway signalized intersection and the new/realigned portion of Nogales Highway. Upon opening of the new Nogales Highway, all northbound and southbound traffic will be routed to the the new roadway alignment, i.e. the existing intersection configuration will be closed to traffic and access prohibited. Sahuarita Road traffic (eastbound and westbound) will remain open, but access to/from Nogales Highway will occur at the new intersection .

As part of the ongoing construction efforts, drivers should be aware of all traffic control devices/signage and all speed limit reductions, as large equipment may be working near the roadways.

A summary of the anticipated short-term (2-3 week) construction activities can be seen in the August 13, 2013 Look Ahead Schedule
