Earth Day Activities Abound This Year in Sahuarita

Celebrate Earth! Scavenger Hunt

This year in Sahuarita, there is no shortage of opportunities to celebrate Earth Day as it approaches on April 22. We've planned a month of activities in honor of this special time. Parks, Recreation and Community Services began the Celebrate Earth! Scavenger Hunt this month with it's Quest Book now available for download on the Town of Sahuarita website. As a more eco-friendly alternative to physically printing out the Quest Book, participants may wish to simply make use of the "virtual links" also available on that same webpage.

The scavenger hunt takes participants to five town parks and the Llano Grande Trailhead to learn about park attributes and the ways healthy parks contribute to a happy earth. Participants who choose to return their completed quest results with all clues correctly answered will be entered in a drawing to win the "Trekker's Bundle," including pro-grade backpack with hiking and nature-related gear inside.

Participants need to submit completed quests by April 30. Those with 100% correct answers qualify for the prize drawing. Answers can be entered online and saved to return later for completion of the entire exercise. Submitted answers will be considered final on May 1.

Arbor Day (Virtual Celebration)

Join town staff on Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube to watch educational videos in honor of Arbor Day as the town conducts healthful maintenance of trees on April 21 and 30. Learn more about the origins of Arbor Day and other ways you can celebrate in a time of social distancing here.

Town of Sahuarita Honored as a "Tree City USA"

On March 1 the town received notification from the Arbor Day Foundation that we were awarded a designation as a Tree City USA 2020. The Arbor Day foundation works in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters. In order to receive this designation we were required to meet criteria that demonstrated planting and care of trees as a priority. Also in keeping with the requirements for this designation, the town has maintained a tree inventory, created a tree plan, and is hosting an annual Arbor Day Celebration.
