United States Census workers are presently active in Sahuarita and throughout the United States prepping for Census 2020. These employees need to be allowed access to all communities in order to complete their important work, including gated neighborhoods. They are canvassing and taking note of occupied residences to ensure that Census 2020 is taken as accurately as possible. The actual Census count will begin April 1, 2020.

Why is an Accurate Count Important to Sahuarita?

  • Representation: the census determines the number of seats Arizona will have in the House of Representatives, and redistricting state legislative districts will be determined by census data.
  • Funding: Federal dollars allocated to Sahuarita for things like education, housing, roads, public transportation, public safety, healthcare, senior care, neighborhood improvements, and parks and recreation is based on population counts taken from the census.
  • Economic Development: Businesses use census data to help decide where best to build new factories, offices, and stores that lead to jobs and more variety for consumers.
