[SAHUARITA, AZ – July 5, 2024] – On Thursday, July 4, 2024, at approximately 07:37 AM, Sahuarita Police Department officers were asked to assist the Pima County Sheriff’s Department with a rescue call they were working.
Initial information indicated that two people, an adult male and female, had called 9-1-1 and reported that they were stranded in the desert. They had been camping for a few days and now their vehicle had become disabled, they were stuck, and they had run out of food and water. They only knew the approximate area they were located in and were not able to provide good information for rescuers to reach them.
SPD officers deployed a drone and were able to locate them in the desert area approximately two miles northeast of Walden Grove High School. Deputies, Officers, and Santa Rita Fire Department paramedics contacted the individuals; one individual was treated for dehydration and transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
Situations like this, especially in the extremely hot temperatures of summertime, can quickly become life and death for the people involved. This is just one of the many examples of the outstanding teamwork of PCSD, SRFD, and SPD that help keep our community a safe place to live, work, and play.
