New Adaptive Programs to Promote Inclusive Recreation

Sahuarita Parks & Recreation is proud to announce a new slate of adaptive programs designed to expand access to recreational opportunities for individuals of all abilities. Whether you're looking to get active, try something new, or build a supportive community, these programs are tailored to encourage participation, connection, and fun for everyone.

“Recreation should be inclusive and accessible to all,” said Devin Stalder, Director of Parks & Recreation. “We are excited to roll out these programs and invite the community to join us in celebrating adaptive sports, accessibility, and wellness.”

Upcoming Events

Open House: Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports

Get inspired at our Adaptive Sports Open House! This inclusive event offers hands-on experiences in wheelchair basketball, wheelchair pickleball, air rifle, hand cycling, and more. Equipment is provided—just bring your enthusiasm! These open houses are free and open to ages 6 and up at the La Villita Community Center. Residents are encouraged to register here, and drop-ins are welcome.

Dates & Activities:

  • Aug. 22 – Air Rifle (8-11 AM) & Wheelchair Pickleball & Basketball (11 AM - 1 PM)
  • Aug. 23 – Air Rifle & Hand Cycling  (8-11 AM) & Wheelchair Pickleball & Basketball (11 AM - 4 PM)

Adaptive All Stars

A fun, engaging P.E.-style program for adults (16+) with intellectual, physical, or visual impairments. Participants will enjoy a variety of sports and physical activities, including soccer, kickball, fitness games, and more – designed to encourage lifelong recreation and wellness.

Tuesdays | 12:30 – 1:30 PM

  • August 5, 12, 19, 26 — $20
  • September 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 — $25
  • October 14, 21, 28 (Excludes Oct. 7) — $15

Adaptive Aerobics

This low-impact fitness class is designed to support individuals with disabilities in building muscle strength, endurance, and overall health. With adaptive modifications for all abilities, participants will learn exercises that engage the full body in a welcoming environment.

Thursdays (August–October) | 12:30 – 1:30 PM
Ages 18+ | 💲 $5 per class
