Art State Arizona and the Town of Sahuarita are excited to announce the return of the Sahuarita Photography Competition for its fourth annual year, celebrating the theme Desert in Bloom. The competition invites photographers of all ages and experience levels to explore and document the landscapes, people, and everyday moments that shape life in Sahuarita and the surrounding Sonoran Desert.
From desert ecosystems and shifting light to parks, local businesses, and the rhythms of community life, this year’s theme highlights the many ways life grows, adapts, and thrives in the desert.
Submissions are open through May 22, 2026, with winners announced in early June. Photographers may submit work across six categories designed to highlight the many dimensions of Sahuarita’s unique character:
· Land, Water & Adaptation – Desert landscapes, wildlife, and natural systems that shape life in the region.
· Work of Light – Dramatic shadows, reflections, and the powerful light of the desert environment.
· Night in Sahuarita – Evening scenes, illuminated spaces, and quiet moments under the desert sky.
· Parks & Public Spaces – Community life unfolding across Sahuarita’s parks, trails, and gathering places.
· Sahuarita at Work – The people, businesses, and industries that keep the town moving.
· Youth Photographer Showcase – Open to photographers under 18, encouraging young artists to share their perspectives.

“Photography allows us to see our community through fresh eyes,” said Matt Rolland, Deputy Director of Art State Arizona. “Each year, this competition reveals the stories, landscapes, and everyday moments that define Sahuarita. Desert in Bloom invites photographers to explore how life thrives here—sometimes in bold ways, sometimes in quiet details.”
The Sahuarita Photography Competition has become a growing creative tradition, encouraging residents and visitors alike to reflect on the beauty and identity of this desert community through visual storytelling.
“This competition celebrates the heart of Sahuarita—our landscapes, our people, and the everyday moments that connect us,” said Jodi Guerin, Parks and Recreation Deputy Director for the Town of Sahuarita. “We’re excited to see how photographers can capture the spirit and resilience of life in the desert.”
