The El Toro Road extension project is complete, which now connects Rancho Sahuarita Boulevard east to La Villita. This development marks a significant milestone in improving local traffic flow and reducing the number of railroad crossings.
Beginning Monday, Feb.17, the portion of Twin Buttes Road that previously connected vehicles to La Villita will be permanently closed. Drivers will now utilize the newly extended El Toro Road to reach La Villita. Road closure and detour signs will be in place to assist drivers as they adjust to the new alignment.
"This change reflects our commitment to improving traffic flow and safety for our residents," said Mayor Tom Murphy. "The new alignment is a better connection between La Cañada and La Villita and reduces the number of railroad crossings drivers must navigate."
The El Toro Road extension is part of two ongoing construction projects. While the extension to La Villita is complete, the new intersection along El Toro Road requires improvements from Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR). As such, a definitive completion date for the intersection is not yet available. However, construction at the intersection will have minimal impact on El Toro Road traffic.
The Town of Sahuarita appreciates the public’s patience during these improvements and encourages drivers to follow posted signs and exercise caution in the area.
