The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) have proposed a regional transportation plan under RTA Next that is estimated to be $2.67 billion and would be funded by a half-cent sales tax for 20 years, pending voter approval in March.

According to the RTA, the proposal is designed to support transportation improvements across Pima County while continuing progress on projects approved under the 2006 Regional Transportation Plan. The update also explains that seven projects originally included in the 2006 plan are proposed to transition into RTA Next due to updated scopes tied to growth and changing traffic patterns; the RTA notes these adjustments and related funding would require voter approval.

As the election approaches, residents are encouraged to review the plan’s project lists, maps, and background materials to understand what is proposed and how it may affect travel and mobility in the region.
