Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Will Sahuarita be adopting the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code?
Answer: No. Staff will be recommending continued use of the 2018 IECC.
Question: I'm a homebuilder. What will happen with my model plans when you adopt the new codes?
Answer: We are stamping approved model plans with a 2-year approval. If you submit your model plans prior to the implementation date of the new codes, you can continue using the approved model plans for a 2-year period.
Question: What is the timeline for adoption, and will implementation be immediate?
Answer [UPDATED February 2026]: The Town Council will hold a study session on March 9 with adoption targeted for April 6, 2026. There will be a delayed implementation of two to three months to allow designers to shift to the new codes. In between the adoption date and the implementation date, we will accept plan sets under either the 2018 codes or the 2024 codes.
Question: How can I get involved, and if I have comments or questions, where should I direct them?
Answer: We recommend that you read through the proposed local amendments (see links above). Stakeholder feedback is welcome and encouraged, and we are happy to meet individually with anyone who wants to learn more or who has questions. Feedback and meeting requests can be directed to Andrew Parkin, Acting Building Safety Manager, at aparkin@sahuaritaaz.gov or (520) 822-8867.
