[Sahuarita, AZ - Feb. 16, 2023] - On Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 1354 hours, the SPD received information of a possible threat incident at Walden Grove High School (WGHS). The initial information indicated a student or students may have received, by way of a text message or air drop, a picture of a “grenade” along with a threat possibly indicating blowing up “the place.” The initial response included multiple officers from the SPD and the following allied agencies: alphabetically ATF, Border Patrol, FBI, HSI, Marana Police Department, Pima County Sheriff’s Department and Union Pacific Police Department.
Once the safety of all students and staff was assured, SPD Detectives began their investigation. As a result of their investigation, two male suspects were identified. A 14- year-old WGHS Freshman and a 15-year-old WGHS Sophomore. Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Pima County Juvenile Detention Center on the following charges:
1. Making a terroristic threat (Class 3 Felony)
2. Interference with/or disruption of an educational institution (Class 6 Felony)
Due to both suspects being juveniles their identities are unable to be released at this time.
The SPD would like to thank our local and federal law enforcement partners, including Sahuarita Unified School District Personnel, for their assistance with this case. We would also like to thank the community and students for their patience and understanding during this highly stressful event.
This case is still under investigation by SPD detectives.
